I Will Always RememberDedicated to a wounded friend
I will always Remember that I am a woman
and although the child I was still cherishes unrealized hopes,
I am not a child.
I am a woman and within me dwells the landscape of my Heart
and no one can enter there uninvited.
I will allow no one to disrespect or damage or abuse me in anyway
and certainly not any to whom I've opened my heart.
I will always Remember that I am a woman
and I have the right to protect and defend myself against any transgression.
I will not be mute.
I choose with whom I share my body, my heart and my life
and I choose how and when I do so.
No one has the right to demand more of me than I choose to give
and no one has the right to take advantage of my generosity.
I will always remember that I am a woman and within me is a world
that is profoundly private, and filled with the pain of unspoken fears,
unfulfilled dreams and unrequited love.
Yet it is also filled with the determination
and assurance of unexpected strengths and unacknowledged talents.
I will listen to my heart, guided by my conscience.
I will trust my instincts and the voice of my spirit.
I will not be constrained by the criticisms, expectations
or guilts that others would impose on me
and I will strive to dispel those shadows within me.
Mine is a world of my choosing and I will always remember,
I can choose to change but others cannot change me,
I can choose to give but others cannot take from me
and I can choose what path to walk, and walk alone, if I choose.
I will always remember that I am a woman and I honor myself
and the dreams I cherish.
