SPRING POEMS

Spring in New England

Warm Thursday, snow threat Friday,
magnolia buds barely open a day at a time
ferns roll upwards quarter inch a day,
winds roar bitter cold wind one moment
and soft lacy warm breezes
fill aura of moist damp fertile earth,
rain pelts frost mornings
sun three quarters in sky
inches towards height-dom
a top all when summer arrives.
ah, slow Nature moves forward into itself,
long season of maple syrup,
slow ice melts for pond fishermen
to dally at hut removal,
plenty of last minute ice skate runs,
hours and hours of kite flights,
long afternoons of rain mix with snow
by wood fire roast apples,
with watchful eye on stew
and what will be next.

Today, Precisely At 12:01

precisely at 12:01 pm
last spring snow flake
dropped from cloudy sky
riveted ice shivers
channeled through extremities
invisible sun one quarter way up to
high noon like pirate
waits to attack,
reached outstretched tongue to capture
your subtlety
taste warmth
kiss lips
and found
last spring snowflake
melt
and you
cold as ever.

Spring Rain

Wind Swept
Rain
Sweet of Spring,

Halo
Ring
Moon
soft,

Blossom
Enchant
Melody
Free of Questioning,

Free of Secrets,

Love Banquet

Now.

Uninvited Late Spring Storm #1.

dark, uninvited, late spring storm
bends limbs
uproots trees starved for water
floods fields,
thundering voices won't give in to pass by,
arguments and cracked lightning
welds direct strikes
from sky to earth
splits apart black seams of night
halts human electricity in its tracks,
scares us into
who we are,
might be,
or
don't
want to be.

Uninvited Late Spring Poem #2.

through night creeks roar past windows
deep in woods of our consciousness,
intersect caldrons of energy,
humidity races away,
dew uplifts itself
un-veils sorrow streaming in upward flight,

creeks rush
bird songs return,
crickets and leap frogs call out
time waits
for lovers to accept
and acknowledge seams of night,

to walk again in honey suckle,
give each other smiles
and make love in fresh morning
of clear open spaces,
in break
between next big storm.

Weather Thoughts, June 11 Spring 2004

Missed eclipse
but living Spring every day.
Spectacular weather! Gorgeous hot,
intense thunder & lightening. Pretty deep
skies, cloudless, no humidity. Wild roses
all out this week and worth drive
from anywhere. 'Been venturing out
driving country dirt roads
and to top it off
it's first nights of the return
of summer fire flies!
