My work is about beauty. I want to create the most beautiful canvases, with the most luscious colors one could imagine. The paintings may appear to be realistic in style, but the real world is just the starting point. One of the best parts of creating a painting is found in the ability to enhance reality. The colors are often heightened, the contrast between light and dark may be increased, and the background sometimes becomes pure pattern.
One encounters many challenges in the painting process and sometimes these challenges have nothing to do with the act of putting paint on canvas. For instance, a painting may take a year or more to complete, but no bowl of fruit will wait around that long it will rot! Because of this, I have had to learn quite a lot about photography, so that I can take a picture that has enough detail for me to work from.
My goal is create paintings that will hold ones' interest. Paintings that will communicate my own feeling of inspiration.
