MORAL UNCERTAINTY:
A PARTIAL HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE ON
CULTURALLY FRACTURED SOCIAL OBFUSCATION.

[This poem stands on it s own with no footnote necessary, however, a little personal insight might add a little perspective, on the poem, in relation to THE OPUS TERRA SALON LITERARY GROUP.
We meet pretty regularly, for such a group of creative minds, about once a month. A theme is decided and posted. The May 2010 theme started out as MORAL CERTAINTY.
Because May is always one of the busiest months of the year for me, I immediately began writing a poem about the theme. I mistakenly wrote down the theme as MORAL UN-CERTAINTY.
Yes, it radically changes the theme, but don t worry. I worked it in satisfactorily, upon realizing the typographical error.
BUT, it doesn t stop there. A day before our gathering, I was informed the new theme, was going to be PERFECT PLANET.
HUMMM MMMMM. O.K. I can throw a few lines in, fake it best I could, and keep the integrity of the piece basically intact, as intact as a first draft, totally stream of conscious piece could be, in my Beat style of writing.
In a comical kind of way, the mishaps of the theme actually fit in better than, if they weren t made. Mostly because of the theme of my piece, that is; obfuscation, which for those of us not wanting to run to a dictionary, but want to know clearly what obfuscate means, I quote Encarta. To make obscure, unclear; often by over complication. Enjoy.]

. . . IF we only have one planet, it must be perfect, why would we settle for anything less. ? After all, we do live in the best country of the world, on the most perfect planet. After all, we are the most intelligent of the planet s species, and there are so many of us, why wouldn t it be a perfect planet.
When you don t know what
groovy means
or U Tube , or cheeez-zie
you can be left out of cultural loops,
and having missing chunks of,
whatever it is, that you missed,
out of your life forever,
you
might be considered
square , uncool , unhip , so down , . . .
out of it , even gone . . .
and, it s really no big deal .

But,
in some arenas of metal cage muscle man competitions
blows are real,
unlike wrestle-mania, tv chair, head bashing.

If you don t know the particular
hot , or in
fashion style,

and,
your 1970's three #2 pencil thin straight tie,
all of a sudden absconds marvelous
ooohhhs! And aaahhhs!
Let it be.

But,
when we don t know,
the difference between
Square Deal, New Deal and No Deal
the Truth, or Consequences,
of Cheese Burger, Cheese Burger,
Cone Head happy family
Saturday Night Live cultural . . .
social obfuscation,
can be quite devastating,
[Twilight Zone, Lost in Space, LAventura]
But,
as some erroneously say
over and over again,
American ignorance, is American bliss.
Well, Big Time, under the Big Tent,
only you can prevent forest fires
and only you can [define]
stop progress.

Oh, But, But, But,
only people
can define progress,
any fool on the hill knows that
Obfuscation.
. . . I paraphrase a real television experience. . .
What are you doing White Fang?
Be Quiet.
Now all you little boys, and girls,
out there in tv land,
go very quietly,
into your parents bed room,
make sure no one is watching,
open up mommy s purse,
you know the one,
send me green stuff, . . . .
get an envelope,
address it to me,
write the address down, . . . .
be good little girls, and boys,
don t tell mommy, or daddy.

But,
while we re doing this, or that,
our government, our American government,
of red, white and blue, apple-pie mongering,
down home, ANTI- communist, anti-vegetarian,
pastoral, flag raising, patriotic, industrial Capitalistic Americans,
those same American s who
never saw Alice s Restaurant,
never listened to Alice s Restaurant,
and never even ate at Alice s Restaurant,
have perfected political and media obfuscation
and polished it s shine to it s most glorious
Hollywood, Big Apple,
five star, Big Hit, success, Vegas
Where s The Beef?
But,
our social industrial, cultural military, political congressional complex via General IKE
[CIA, good bye Allende, hello Anaconda Copper,]
via Henry Kissinger,
pulling wool over eyes
of both Nixon and Johnson,
simultaneously obfuscated the obfuscators,
and not a damn thing has ever been noticed,
yet, Soupy Sales, even with an apology
got decked in a heartbeat,
and shuffled so fast off of t.v.
[Jimmy the Greek, Howard Cosell]
you would have thought
Soupy lied about the first A bomb,
Pearl Harbor, 9-11, and the War on Terror,
[no nukes, nudes, no bio weapons, nudist camps, not even terrorist camps]
[CIA, British intelligence, Russian Intelligence, Vatican Intelligence told us so]
{Mr. Moral Uncertainty}
[Star Trek, Blue Zone, Ad men, Mad men, Kafka, Trial, Catch 22]
But,
you really had to be there
in your own living room
when the big clear American fish bowl
of birthday numbers
was rolled out with drum roll
on national tv,
[not Walt Disney Movie, Hardy Boy Thriller, Maverick, Rifleman, Lawman, Zorro]
and it meant,
in a countable number of months,
unlike commercial game shows on tv,
you could be dressed in a U.S. Army
be all you can be uniform,
craving pot, dumped in a rice field,
sucking down napalm
elated, dead,
or,
if real lucky
a Vietnam veteran coming home alive,
even if it was to half a nation
hating your guts, for following Presidential orders,
rich kids didn t have to follow
because of money, wealth, political clout and
being in the loop of knowing the difference between
Square Deal, New Deal, No Deal,
which really had a personal impact
on everyone s personal cultural Viet Nam
social obfuscation,
now didn t it?

BUT, ditto Berlin Wall
BUT, ditto Bay of Pigs
BUT, ditto Iran
BUT, ditto Gulf of Tonkin
BUT, ditto Israel, Palestine
BUT, ditto Contras
BUT, ditto Nor ie-ega
BUT, ditto Gulf War
BUT, ditto War on Terror
BUT, ditto now all Political, Social Obfuscations
BUT, go into our pocket books,
and savings accounts
and for the rest of our lives
and children s lives,
send, by April 15th, every year
at least 25%,
and for some 33%
of everything we ve made
to Uncle Sam, The Sham and the Pharaohs,
so we can pay for sleuth bombs,
and infrared helmets,
while Bechtel and Cheney lovers
get richer
and richer,
and out obfuscate
the obfuscators, all over again,
[American Idol, Dance with Stars, Survivor, Macguyver, Fugitive]
Take a drag on that thought hook, line and sinker;
up your u-tube Boris, Bulwinkle, Tarzan
cheese burger, cheese burger.
There s no such thing as
moral uncertainty!

You either stab in the back,
of you don t;
[Tweeter, Ding}
[Godfather I, II, III, Scarface, Soprano s]
You take the ten dollars
from your friend s pocket
or you don t;

Who lied about the bomb?
[NY Times, - all news, that s fit to slant -]
or - - -
We don t, won t, didn t,
or - - -
[Fox News, - you decide -]
Who stole billions
or, Who didn t;
[Capitol Hill]
[Manchurian Candidate, Network]
Who invaded, lied, cheated, stole,
covered-up, punished;
[Thrill of Victory, Agony of Defeat]
[Capitol Hill, NSC, Warren Report,
Thrill of Victory, Agony of Defeat]
There s nothing in between
knife in back,
hand in jar,
bomb target in site,
it s black, or white;
it s dead, or alive;
moral, or immoral?
certainty, or uncertainty?
yes, or no,
perfect, or un-perfect.
But,
Is New York, Los Angeles?
Texas, Maine?
Dublin, London?
A dog, a horse?
A Connecticut Yankee, a Southern Democrat?
A Liberal, a Commie?
It s Truth, or Consequences,
not Wheel of Fortune!
It s like im -moral un -certainty
not moral uncertainty.
Who ever heard of
obfuscating the obfuscators anyway!???
But,
. . .
if I may interject a brief moment
of commentary logic,
or, is it
cemetery logic,
Just a little pompous-obfuscation
ask not what obfuscators
can do for you,
but what you can do for obfuscators,
is what we ve gotten with moral uncertainty!
on a perfect planet
in the best country in the world.
