ARTIST'S STATEMENTARTIST STATEMENT
"Inscapes"
is a series of paintings, that originated in 1995. The idea came to me during my hasty emigration to the United States as I troubled over how I would translate my experience and skills for vast architectural murals into a form manageable for me in a new, unfamiliar country and satisfying to me from the perspective of my European imagination and artistic sensibility.
When I escaped the political repression in the formal Czechoslovakia, I was an art student and theatrical scene painter. I first immigrated to Nuernberg, where I started work with Wiedl Restoration Company as "Kirchenmaler", or church painter. Here I was exposed to the work of master European painters. The legacy of human imagination and knowledge of the ages was left for me to learn and reinvigorate on the walls of churches and castles. From the transformations of others I have learned my trade and bring this passion for art to bear in my small INSCAPES
Painting is for me a form of spiritual quest which I approach with commitment and passion.
"Inscapes" are the "Inner" world I live in and explore. Some of the qualities they represent are peace, solitude, contemplation, meditation, relaxation and healing. The door is wide open, inviting the viewer to explore that world with me.
Inscapes are built of wood and wood composite, finished with acrylic paints, varnishes and sometimes gold or silver leaf.
The images of places and landscapes are drawn from my memory, molded by my feelings, emotions and thoughts I experience while painting.
